This Punta Cana Luxury Resort Is Perfect for Remote Work—And Play

I’m not the sort of traveler who usually seeks out all-inclusive resorts. Before this stay, I had only stayed at one all-inclusive property—the Moon Palace in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and I won that trip at a happy hour.

I tend to frequent destinations where there’s so much to experience that I’m not likely to spend all that much time at my hotel. That was before I was blending life and work as I do now. As a part-time digital nomad, I have a whole new appreciation for the convenience and consistency all-inclusive resorts can bring to the adventure of remote work.

Vibe

The TRS Cap Cana feels like a blissful bubble in an otherwise chaotic world.

The laid-back adults-only luxury hotel has 115 suites, two gorgeous pools and 24-hour room attendants available for anything you might need around the clock. It’s the kind of place you go to get away from it all, but it’s also not far from a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and an equestrian center.

There’s live music on-site, but this isn’t a party resort. Step out on your terrace at night to send those last emails from the glow of your swim-up pool while you feel a Dominican breeze blowing through your hair.

During the day, take a paddle board yoga, painting or Bachata class. Work from an onsite coffee shop or send emails from your hammock in between dips in the pool.

Location

The TRS Cap Cana sits on the eastern edge of the Dominican Republic in a master-planned community built around the Cap Cana Marina. It’s about a 15-minute drive to the airport and a 35-minute drive from Bavaro Beach where you’ll find a greater concentration of hotels and nightlife.

The property has a small beach with idyllic cabanas, but the water isn’t the crystal clear turquoise that may have drawn you to the Caribbean. For that, you’ll need to take the resort shuttle to Juanillo Beach. It’s a quick drive—about five minutes.

Rooms

I’ve written about plenty of hotels with swim-up rooms, but TRS Cap Cana was my first time experiencing one. It was magical.

My swim-up suite came with a king-size bed, a living area and a dreamy terrace with a hammock that quickly became my favorite place for responding to emails. The bathroom and closet were huge—the kind of places where you really could unpack and stay a while.

Bathrooms at the TRS Cap Cana feature rainfall showers. One room category includes a huge private outdoor shower as well.

The rooms themselves are comfortable—like a perfect studio apartment with a mattress you can really sink into. There are safes, hair dryers and luggage racks. There’s also a table that’s perfect for breakfast and checking emails in the morning. But it’s the terrace that’s the best part of all.

Swim-up suites come with a hammock on the terrace, chairs and a slice of a private pool only accessible through suites. There’s also a power outlet outside. Bring a few friends to create the ultimate pool party, but plan ahead. These are the property’s most popular suites and book up early.

Food & Drink

The TRS Cap Cana has four restaurants including an Italian eatery and pizzeria, an Argentinian steakhouse and an Ibiza-style beach club. There’s also a pool grill for burgers, fries and chicken wings. There are several vegetarian options at the property’s restaurant, and the grill chef will always find a way to feed you. He made me the most refreshing tomato and avocado salad—the perfect beach snack.

There’s an extensive breakfast buffet as well as a menu for ala carte breakfast orders. Room service is available 24 hours. My suite came with a welcome tray of fruit and sweets, including a melon carved with the resort logo.

Guests can either choose an all-inclusive price or pay separately for food. A couple of guests at the hotel tried ala carte pricing but quickly switched to all-inclusive pricing, something they’d recommend guests pay for from the outset.

Most restaurants offer at least a couple of vegetarian options though I skipped the steakhouse. The beach club amazes me with what it’s able to do to vegetables.

Guests staying at the Cap Cana hotel do get complimentary tickets to a sister property’s cabaret restaurant, the TRS Turquesa a bit further north in Punta Cana. You’ll need to take a hotel shuttle to get there, but the show and epic multi-course dinner are worth the ride.

Amenities

Amenities are where the TRS Cap Cana shines. This resort has two large pools, one with a swim-up bar and activities like paddle board yoga and aqua biking. There’s a small private beach, but it’s not exactly idyllic. The hotel does run a shuttle to Juanillo Beach, where you’ll find postcard views, a fully-staffed area with beach loungers and Wifi, though you’ll have to share this stretch of sand with a local beach club.

The hotel has a daily calendar of activities and live music in the evenings. There’s a small fitness center onsite as well as a TRS signature Zentropia spa, which features a network of hot and cold pools with a sauna, steam room and optional massages.

Remote workers may especially appreciate the onsite coffee shop. I know I did. Just because I have to work to support myself doesn’t mean I can’t do it with a view. And there may be no better work break than painting with the sound of the Caribbean in the background.

I’m very proud of my hat!

Bottom Line

If you’re looking to work remotely from a scenic place and not have to worry about anything for a few days or weeks, the TRS Cap Cana is it. The TRS Cap Cana is a resort bubble on the eastern edge of the Dominican Republic. This is a place that’s more about comfort than cultural immersion, and you’ll find it’s very easy to get comfortable here.
