This Paris Boutique Hotel Will Make You Feel Like A Local

Review: Maison Mère 📍 Paris, France

Stepping inside the Maison Mère hotel in Paris is like walking into an immaculately styled French daydream. There’s a gorgeous custom tile entryway, a giant pink couch that looks fresh off Instagram, and shelves of trinkets, art pieces, even stylish sneakers.

This hotel is clean, comfortable, and a lot of fun. It has just 51 rooms, some of which can be booked for as little as €110 a night. And while these rooms aren’t over the top luxurious, each is one-of-a-kind with everything a traveler needs for an authentic taste of Parisian life.

Location

The Maison Mère is located in the city’s 9th arrondissement, making it an ideal home base for exploring the charming streets of Montmartre. Walk north from the hotel for about 15 minutes and you’ll find yourself at the iconic Sacre-Coeur. Head southwest for about 15 minutes and you’ll get to the Opera Garnier. Rue des Martyrs, a small street where local residents shop for groceries, is a short walk from the hotel and well worth a delicious stroll.

Vibe

This is a small family-owned hotel with a huge personality, and it shows. From cabaret to drag to hip hop yoga, there is always something fun happening here. Always lively and never stuffy, this 4-star property oozes local charm and welcomes guests with personal touches like handwritten cards, custom chocolate bars, and fresh flowers.

Rooms

Standard rooms at Maison Mère are small by American standards but feel authentically Parisian in every way thanks to the local artists and designers who helped to create this space. Blackout drapes make it easy to sleep in, and an in-room tablet comes loaded with a local city guide and more.

Rooms have everything a traveler needs — including blow dryers, full-length mirrors, space to hang up your clothes, and Nespresso makers. Flat-screen smart TVs offer access to Netflix and Spotify, and some rooms include gaming consoles. Even the smallest rooms have a small table with enough space for a laptop, but you’ll need to opt for at least a standard room for a desk.

Bathrooms are small but stylish and feature rainfall showerheads and towel warmers, but you’ll need to have your indulgent bubble baths elsewhere. Standard rooms are equipped with showers not bathtubs.

Maison Mère’s beds are as comfortable as they look in pictures. Between the fluffy duvet and collection of plush pillows, you may feel as if you’re drifting off on a cloud. And then there’s waking up to views like this.

Food & Drinks

Many hotel restaurants and bars are overpriced and still underdeliver, but not here. Maison Mère’s Hey Honey restaurant is a neighborhood destination that just happens to be located inside a hotel.

Breakfast can be had in bed or at the hotel restaurant, which is open throughout the day. Dinner, however, is the meal not to miss, especially if you or a traveling companion is vegetarian.

The vegetarian scene in Paris is better than it once was, but it’s no San Francisco. But Hey Honey’s dinner tasting menus are a feast for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. This is a restaurant that takes a creative approach to vegetables, creating one-of-a-kind dishes that go far beyond the boring kinds of pasta vegetarians are more likely to find at local restaurants.

Hey Honey’s cocktails are just as creative as its food menus.

Amenities

The list of amenities at the Maison Mère hotel isn’t long. You’ll find a single restaurant and bar, a lounge area, and space for co-working. There’s no fitness center, pool, or spa, though the hotel partners with a local gym. The hotel is pet-friendly.

Bottom Line

Maison Mère offers one of the best hotel deals in Paris. It’s an affordable oasis of comfort with a variety of room styles to accommodate solo travelers, couples, even families or groups of friends. This small independent hotel is more than a place to lay your head. It’s a place that will make you feel like a local, even if it for just a few days.
